Emergency & Critical Care

Dr. Zachary Wilcox brings a wealth of experience to the GCVS Critical Care team. He earned his veterinary degree from Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine, completing his clinical year at Texas A&M University, and later pursued residency training in Critical Care at Tufts University. Before veterinary school, Dr. Wilcox completed both his undergraduate studies and a Master of Professional Studies in Epidemiology and Infectious Disease at Cornell University, where his research focused on Cryptosporidium parvum and strategies to reduce zoonotic transmission in Sub-Saharan Africa.

Dr. Wilcox’s academic interests lie at the intersection of public health and veterinary medicine. He enjoys all aspects of critical care, but is particularly interested in advancements with mechanical ventilation, sepsis management, and toxicologic emergencies. He has co-authored a publication in the Journal of the American Veterinary Medical Association, providing emergency clinicians with tools to offer a spectrum of care to clients with financial limitations.

Clinically, Dr. Wilcox enjoys managing complex cases involving sepsis, polytrauma, and mechanical ventilation. As a dedicated mentor, he enjoys guiding interns and early-career ECC professionals. Outside the hospital, Dr. Wilcox is an avid traveler, SCUBA diver, and rare-plant enthusiast who shares his home with two Chihuahuas, Moira and Pablo, and an armadillo, Pierre, who decided to move in shortly after he arrived in Texas.
