Cynthia Alvarez, LVT

Cynthia began her veterinary journey with a strong academic foundation, earning an Associate of Science degree from Houston Community College in 2016 and an Associate of Applied Science in Veterinary Technology from the Vet Tech Institute (VTI) in 2018. While attending VTI, she worked as a kennel assistant at a small general practice, where she gained valuable hands-on experience and discovered the wide range of roles a veterinary technician can take on.   Shortly after graduation, she completed an externship at Gulf Coast Veterinary Specialists (GCVS), where she discovered a passion for Ophthalmology, drawn to the unique blend of client interaction and surgical care. This experience solidified her path, and she officially joined the GCVS team in 2019. Her dedication and expertise led to a promotion to Ophthalmology Supervisor in December 2022. She now serves as the Surgery and Anesthesia Manager, continuing to lead with a focus on high-quality care and team development.   With specialized skills in Ophthalmology—particularly in surgery and client education—Cynthia brings technical expertise and compassionate communication to her role. Her lifelong love of animals and interest in science have made veterinary medicine a perfect fit.   Outside work, Cynthia enjoys overlanding adventures and traveling in her Subaru, often exploring new places off the beaten path. She also enjoys experimenting with crafting cocktails at home. She shares her home with Güera, a feisty and adorably chunky cat—an experience that’s given her a soft spot for spirited cats and dogs alike.
