Gulf Coast Animal Rehabilitation and Fitness was the first rehabilitation center established in the Houston region and one of the first to open in the nation, giving us the experience to meet your pet’s needs. Our dedicated rehabilitation team utilizes fear-free techniques to ensure your pet’s comfort while receiving specialized rehabilitation care. Collaboration is available with the surgical specialists at GCVS as well as the other specialists in this group to enhance your pet’s recovery.
Your first appointment will consist of a comprehensive rehabilitation evaluation as well as treatment planning. This appointment will last approximately 60 minutes, dependent on your pet’s needs and tolerance. The rehabilitation team will take measurements, discuss your goals for your pet, and make recommendations for the rehabilitation plan. Most patients will also receive treatment during this first appointment. In order to facilitate owner education and instructions, we ask that you either remain with your pet during this visit, or plan to meet with the team when you return to pick up your pet.
If your primary veterinarian referred your pet to GCARF, medical records, including radiographs, will be requested from your veterinarian for review. If you were referred to GCVS SMR by a veterinarian at GCVS, your records will be accessible. In either case, please plan to arrive 10-15 minutes prior to your appointment time to complete paperwork.
The rehabilitation department sees patients Monday through Friday by appointment. The frequency of your pet’s treatments will be discussed after an evaluation of your pet has been completed. To better accommodate your schedule, in most cases your pet may be dropped off to stay with us for the day and receive treatments.
Our team will take as many calls as possible between appointments and treatment sessions. However, in order to provide the best care possible to each patient, calls may be made after completing patient care at the end of the day. Please be sure to provide both day and evening contact numbers.
As your pet’s condition changes during therapy, his/her home program and activities will also change; regular instructions and progress reports will be provided to you.
GCVS does not provide grooming services. However, in order to maintain water quality in our underwater treadmill chamber, your pet’s coat must be clean and free of debris/matting. If we must bathe your dog prior to treatment, a fee will be assessed.
