Triple Pelvic Osteotomy for Hip
Dysplasia
|
Shadow
is a happy Labrador-Chow that had painful severe hip dysplasia
diagnosed when she was 7-8 months old. A Triple Pelvic Osteotomy
(TPO) was performed on both hips about 6 weeks apart. She is
doing very well with her reconstructed hips almost 10 years
later. |

Shadow’s master recently wrote the
paraphrased note expressing her happiness with the outcome of
the surgery.
Dear GCVS Doctors,
You did triple pelvic osteotomies on Shadow
about 10 years ago. She is a happy, healthy 11 year old who
still loves to jump the fence. She can only jump from the front
to the back because the rest of the fence is topped with 3
strands of smooth wire facing in so she can’t escape. She still
jumps 4 feet up so I can see her in the window of the door to be
sure I know she wants in. She is still very vocal and very
active. You would never know she had hip dysplasia as a puppy.
Thank you for giving her such a long and health life. I do my
part by keeping her weight down much to her dismay. I have
attached a picture of her taken with her best pals Tramp, a
Chow: mix 12 years old, Shadow a Chow/Lab mix 11 years old, and
the new kid on the block, Kricket, who is a registered Sheltie 4
years old. She has her Open Jumpers title and Novice Standard
title in AKC agility and is moving on up. Shadow would have been
great in agility, but I didn’t know about putting that much
stress on those hips.
Thanks again for giving me a long life with
a sweet mutt. I wouldn’t have had it any other way.
Sincerely,
Shadow’s Master |
