On February 16, 2010 Dr. Bill Liska

of Gulf Coast Veterinary Surgery, Orthopedics & Neurology performed a total hip replacement (THR) in a 5 pound Yorkshire Terrier. This patient was the first in the world to receive the newly developed THR-Nano prosthesis (BioMedtrix) designed for animals weighing between 4-8 pounds. This technology opens the door for definitive treatment of debilitating hip injuries and disease to a whole new population of animals.
