Dr. Liska received his D.V.M. from Iowa State University in 1973. He came to Houston in 1976 after completing his internship and surgical residency at The Animal Medical Center in New York and has been receiving referral surgery patients since then. He became Board Certified by the American College of Veterinary Surgeons in 1980. In 1988 Dr. Liska was a founder of Gulf Coast Veterinary Surgery and Gulf Coast Veterinary Specialists in 1989. Dr. Liska received the 1999 Practitioner of the Year and 2009 Specialty Practitioner of the Year Awards from the Texas Veterinary Medical Association. He also was awarded the American Veterinary Medical Association Practitioner Research Award in 2009 for his hip and knee replacement work. Dr. Whitney received his D.V.M. from Louisiana State University in 1982. After one year of general practice in Houston, he completed a one year internship and a three year surgical residency at the Animal Medical Center in New York. He became Board Certified by the American College of Veterinary Surgeons in 1989. Dr. Whitney was with Gulf Coast Veterinary Specialists when its doors opened that same year.
Dr. Beale received his D.V.M. from The University of Florida in 1985. He completed an internship at Friendship Hospital for Animals in Washington, D.C., and a surgical residency at The University of Florida. He became Board Certified by the American College of Veterinary Surgeons in 1991. Dr. Beale was an assistant professor of surgery at the University of Florida College of Veterinary Medicine prior to joining Gulf Coast Veterinary Surgery in 1992. Dr. Beale is an adjunct assistant professor at the Texas A&M College of Veterinary Medicine.
Listen to Dr. Beale as he hosts Your Pet's Health on KTRH (AM 740) on Sunday nights at 8 p.m. Dr. Hottinger received her D.V.M. from The Ohio State University in 1990, followed by an internship at The Animal Medical Center in New York City. She then completed a surgical residency at Michigan State University with special rotations in surgical oncology at Colorado State University and Flint Medical Center. Following her residency, she returned to The Animal Medical Center in New York where she held the position of staff surgeon and instructor for two years. She is board certified by the American College of Veterinary Surgeons. She joined Gulf Coast Veterinary Surgery in 1996. Dr. Hunter received her D.V.M. from Cornell University in 1999. She completed an internship in small animal medicine and surgery at Oradell Animal Hospital in New Jersey followed by a 3-year surgery residency at The Ohio State University. Following her residency, she returned to Oradell Animal Hospital where she held the position of staff surgeon for one year. Dr. Hunter became Board Certified by the American College of Veterinary Surgeons in 2004. She joined Gulf Coast Veterinary Surgery in 2004. Dr. Kevin Benjamino received his DVM from the Ohio State University, completed an Internship at Michigan Veterinary Specialists, a surgical Internship at Gulf Coast Veterinary Surgery, and a surgical Residency at MedVet in Columbus, Ohio. He will be eligible to take the American College of Veterinary Surgeons certification examination in the near future. Dr. Benjamino joined Gulf Coast Veterinary Specialists in 2009.
