"Compassionate Care for You and
Your Pet"
Gulf Coast Veterinary
Internists is a referral veterinary internal medicine specialty practice
within Gulf Coast Veterinary Specialists. Internists specialize in the
diagnosis and treatment of cardiac, respiratory, gastrointestinal,
urogenital, hematologic, and neurologic illnesses. They are often used
to determine the cause of illness in an animal with multiple problems.
Internists aid the family veterinarian by helping to establish a
specific diagnosis or providing a second opinion for pets with problems
that are difficult to diagnose. Anorexia, fever of unknown origin,
anemia, coughing, sneezing, weight loss, vomiting, diarrhea, seizures,
and urinary disturbances are some of the many problems a pet is seen for
at GCVI. The use of specialized diagnostic tools such as cytology, bone
marrow analysis, laparoscopy, echocardiography, endoscopy, and
ultrasonography enable active pursuit of the specific cause of a
disease.
Critical care specialists are highly trained in managing those cases
which require more intensive treatments and monitoring. For example,
pets with respiratory distress, coagulation abnormalities, peritonitis
or shock. Criticalists are also trained in performing emergency surgical
procedures and post-operative management of complicated surgeries.
At GCVI we offer a well-equipped intensive care unit (ICU) that is
staffed 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Supplemental oxygen, total
parenteral nutrition, blood pressure and heart monitoring and full
cardiopulmonary resuscitation are a few of the services offered in the
ICU.
Through the use of co-located specialists in surgery, radiology,
oncology and dermatology at Gulf Coast Veterinary Specialists, GCVI is
able to to provide excellent care for your pet.
